Up for sale, a 1950's Kay archtop cutaway acoustic guitar, USA-made and in excellent condition. A fairly rare model given the cutaway construction and body size, this Kay is a notably well-kept and effective strummer with a d. Ry, snappy sound and cutting top end that isnt too brash, but does have ample bite. The low end is restrained, yet present, and there's a touch of growl when you really dig in, yet everything holds together quite well sonically when you strum a big, open chord. The guitar weighs a mere 4lbs 4oz and features a spruce top and maple back and sides. This Kay has been strung with fresh 12-53 phosphor bronze strings and professionally setup with comfortable action for ideal playability. The maple neck boasts a full D-shaped profile, which is noticeably flat central to the back of the shape and offers lots of shoulder. And with the profile depth measuring. 930 at the 1st fret and. 913 at the 12th, the neck actually gets a hair more slender as you travel up the fretboard. On the bound fretboard, the o. Riginal slender frets are intact, exhibiting just a touch of light wear on frets 1-2, extending to fret 3 beneath the plain strings, with virtually no wear further up the 26 scale.
The nut is new, measuring 1 5/8 in width and carved from bone for optimal sustain and note definition. The headstock features both the original raised metal "Kay" badge and a set of stock Kluson Deluxe single line strip tuners which still function well. On the body, the original Brazilian rosewood floating bridge is intact, along with the original nickel trapeze tailpiece. The top has a consistent arch and shows only light scuffing on the spruce in the pick path. Cosmetic wear on the original nitro lacquer Sunburst finish is limited to j.
Ust a few small chips and nicks on the guitar as a whole, and the neck. Is notably smooth and free of wear, with only one shallow nick on the bass side of the profile behind fret 8 which doesnt affect playability in the slightest.
There is also one piece of patched binding on the back near the endpin. This vintage USA-made Kay archtop is an impressive instrument and an incredible value, offering a dynamic and rich tonal profile.
A hardshell case is included.
