The guitar offers a midrange-forward percussive bark, smooth top end, and a bold, authoritative sound that projects beautifully. Snappy, clear, and full-bodied, this Harmony responds well to fingerpicking too. Light as a feather at 3lbs 15oz, this H167 has been dialed in for optimal action and strung with 12-53 bronze strings. The poplar neck is a full rounded "baseball bat" C shape with plenty of shoulder, measuring. 945 deep at the 1st fret and 1.005 at the 9th, before tapering into the heel.
The bound fretboard is a thick slab of rosewood with pearl dot inlays and the original slender fretwire. The frets are surprisingly pristine, maintaining their full factory height and well rounded crowns with virtually no wear and 14 frets clear of the body. The scale is a full 25 1/4 long, the nut measures a full 1 3/4 in width. The six on a side headstock retains the white Harmony silkscreen logo with white pinstriping, the stock white Made in USA truss rod cover, and original set of strip tuners with white plastic buttons. On the body, the original rosewood mustache bridge sits flush with the solid spruce top, and the neck sits at an ideal angle, having just been professionally reset. The saddle has minimal height, and the action is ideal in every register. Visible through the soundhole, the original H167 stamp is intact, along with the 1969 date stamp. There are a few cracks in the sides of the birch body, which have been professionally repaired and stabilized, posing zero structural risk. The original flared tortoise pickguard is intact, and the Harmony H can still faintly be seen. The top and back of the body are bound, and the soundhole features a multi-ring rosette.
The original lacquer finish is 100% original, with light checking on the top and sides. The guitar shows some expected minor finish scratches and dings from the past half century, but nothing particularly of note. The neck profile is quite clean, with only a couple minor marks which are not distracting to the palm.
