Norman Wood English Hand Made Guitar From 1976 No Reserve Free Postage

  
Difficult to know where to start with this one! Norman was affectionately known as'The Mad Professor of Guitars'. He was indeed an eccentric gentleman and was held in high esteem by those fortunate to meet him.

This was number 49 of the 100 or so guitars he made and they were all of this design. I have owned this guitar some 15 years and in that time I have had the neck re-set by one of the Country's leading Luithers.

For a 45 year old guitar it is in remarkable condition. A slight'fall away' in the top end of the fretboard that is typical of guitars of this age and has no effect on playability. It plays easy right up the fretboard and beyond the octave.

A number of innovative features here, most notably the'Pyramid' back. This is made up of concentric rings and has no Braces resulting in amazing volume and projection. With it tuned to dropped'D' it sounds like a grand piano! The frets are circular and his Idea was they could be rotated when worn but as they were made from Stainless Steel they never wear!

Norman built this guitar from his cottage workshop in Senna, Cornwall. Above the door he had a sign saying'The best guitars in the World are built here'.

He wore white overalls when working on his guitars and any prospective customer would have to'audition' for him. This was to see if they were worthy of one of his guitars. I'm sure some of the tales have been embellished over the years but you should be getting an Idea of the man. Please do check him out, one of the last great English Luithers who sadly is no longer with us. In 15 years I have only ever seen 2 of these become available.

One about 18 months ago went for a few hundred quid but was in poor unplayable condition. The 2nd was a fine example in Holland that went for a couple of grand. Included is a Hard Shell Case. Glad to reply to any questions regarding this. A unique chance to acquire a piece of history.
