Up for sale, a 1970 Harmony Buck Owens American model H169 acoustic guitar in 100% original, collector-grade condition. One of the nicest examples to hit the market in years, this Buck Owens benefits from a fresh neck reset and is notable for retaining its original headstock graphics with no shrinkage or deterioration, complete with the original black chipboard case. This Grand Concert-sized acoustic guitar features a solid spruce top and solid birch back and sides for a tone that maximizes the middle ground between boxy and roaring. While Buck's earliest fans will remember a similar acoustic on episodes of Hee-Haw, this Harmony model has endured in popularity and is also known for Pat Smear's use of a Buck Owens on Nirvana's seminal Unplugged performance. The tone of this guitar has a real richness and percussive cut, with midrange bark and great projection. Bass notes are bold and focused, while the top end has ideal snap and cut without being brittle. These guitars record particularly well too. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Buck Owens is ready for stage and studio use with a fresh set of 12-53 strings. The neck has a full and chunky baseball bat C profile carve with tons of shoulder and nearly imperceptible taper, measuring. 975 deep at the 1st fret and.

The original slender frets are intact on the bound rosewood fretboard, retaining their full factory height with well-rounded crowns and only a touch of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-2. The scale length measures 25 1/4 with 14 frets clear of the body and 19 frets total. The nut measures 1 3/4 in width. The headstock retains the original tuning machines with immaculate chrome plating and white pearloid buttons.

Of particular note to Buck aficionados, the headstock overlay on this model is notorious for shrinking and deteriorating on virtually all examples, yet this particular Buck is the exceedingly rare exception with an original, flawless overlay that sits flat and shows no shrinkage or wear. The body is in excellent shape with all braces secure and the original rosewood bridge which sits flush with top on all edges. The adjustable saddle has room for adjustment in the future, largely in part due to the recent professional neck reset which guarantees comfortable action in every register. The transparent mottled tortoise pickguard is intact, and the 1970 date stamp is still bold and present on the inside back of the body, viewed through the soundhole.

The finish is 100% original with no touchup or overspray, exhibiting vertical checking on spruce top, particularly at the center seam, which is structurally sound. There is light scuffing across the guard and on the back, a few scattered tiny finish chips adjacent to the body binding, and one very short and tight professionally addressed crack on the back at the treble-side waist. The original black chipboard case with red plush interior is included. Check out our shop "Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, " and please let us know if we can answer any questions!
