PLEASE READ: As you can see by googling my on-line store ALUMPSTERS GUITARS, I generally sell only Martin, Gibson, Guild, Taylor, Larrivee, and Alvarez-Yairi guitars. Most of these models are made so well that they tend to increase in value and improve in the complexity and resonance of their sound as they age, regardless of their appearance. I will also consider reasonable offers in my store, including installment payments and trade-ins. If you have a question about this guitar, please Google alumpsters guitars to ask on-line. The Gibson J-45 isdespite Martins claimAmericas guitar, the signature instrument of the serious player in jams, gigs, hoedowns, hootenannies, parties, and front porches since the 1940s.
This J-45 has a vintage round-shouldered jumbo body with a solid spruce top and mahogany back, sides, and neck. It has a non-adjustable rosewood bridge, a 14/20-fret rosewood finger board with pearl dot inlay and a 25.4 scale, with a re-designed tortoise pick guard. The body binding is ivoroid, and of course it has the huge sound for which Jumbo Gibsons have been famous for decades. This guitar has serial number 03504035 and Made in USA barely legible on the headstock, which with the orange oval label inside pretty reliably dates it as 2004supposedly the 35th made in Bozeman on the 350th day of that year.Whichever day it was, thats about fifteen years of kicking banjo and fiddle butts and making music, and the resonance will just keep on gettin better! The specs from the Bozeman shop indicate that it is patterned after the iconic 1942 Gibson J-45s which dominated the music scene for decades. Unfortunately, this one suffered a trauma which produced a number of injuriesall professionally dealt with by my luthier. Apparently a mike stand was dropped on the top, causing several cracks, most noticeably in the treble top lower bout and on either side of the end pin.
When the guitar fell, a hairline crack also opened at the sound hole and at the back of the headstock. Every crack has been glued and cleated as necessary, and the finish has been expertly touched up such that only the lower bout damage is really visible. There are now no structural concerns: the braces, bridge, neck angle, and so forth are fine, and the action is set up at a bit less than 4/32 at the 12. Fret low E, ready to play for years to come. Please check out the many pictures for the cosmetic effect: overall, the black sunburst finish is in excellent shape, and the back and sides show very few incidental scratches, dings, or buckle bruises. In other words, after the R & R it looks like what it is: a great Gibson jumbo guitar which has been playing the hard-driving music for which it was made. This is a players guitar, and I sincerely hope that its next owner is someone who will play it hard, well, and often.
The case is the original deluxe Gibson case, black with a royal blue plush interior. It is in very good shape, inside and out, with only a few dings, bruises, and scuff marks for jam cred. The hardware all works perfectly, and with the Gibson name proudly displayed on the arched top it is an excellent complement to this fine guitar. I have tried to be perfectly clear and accurate in describing this great instrument, so its return will not be accepted unless it can be shown that it was egregiously misrepresented in this listing.
