Boss CS-1 Compression Sustainer (VINTAGE guitar bass/pedal) MIJ (made in Japan). A vintage piece of glory - often with mixed opinions online, due to its heavy sustain and compression from using photocouplers in the circuit! Unlike the Boss CS-2 or CS-3, this old compressor will bring any sound you put through it to a nice "definitely hearable" level, especially with the ambient and super-human like Sustain, this CS-1 will make anything from a guitar (especially country or funk) to a bass guitar (most ambient bass reverb sounds you will ever get when combined with a volume pedal), or a synthesizer (I have never done this with any of my Compressor pedals yet). Controls: Level, Sustain, 2 Way Mode Switch.

This is the first Compression/Sustainer pedal released from Boss. It builds on the lagacy of the Roland AS-1. Like all compression pedals it reduces the output of sounds over a set threshold relative to the strength of the input signal, making levels consistent and improving sustain. In the CS-1 this is done by means of photocouplers. The later CS-2 and CS-3 used VCA's (Voltage Controlled Amplifier) to create the same effect.
