This wonderful 12-string Grand Auditorium guitar was born in the El Cajon, California, Taylor plant on June 13th, 2005, and was the 37th one started that day, according to its serial number (20050613037) and the Taylor website. The sapele mahogany of the 300 series has been referred to as mahogany lite by many players, which most players feel delivers plenty of punch, or edge, and a bit more volume and sustain than most.

Its warmth and power is a really good match to the Taylor design, which is inherently bright. The gloss finish Taylor 354ce-12 has a soft Venetian cutaway, a solid Sitka spruce top, a mahogany neck, and solid sapele mahogany back and sides. The body top and back are fully bound, and it has a tortoiseshell pick guard, an ebonized bridge with black pins, and a multi-stripe inlaid rosette.

The 14/20 fret fingerboard with pearl dot inlay ends in a rosewood headstock veneer with six-per-side enclosed chrome Taylor tuners and the Taylor logo. The action is fast and smooth, and the sound is beautifully balanced and resonant.

As the pictures indicate, cosmetically this particular 354ce has very few dings or dents. The only flaws are a 1 ½ scratch between the bridge and the end binding, and one of the Taylor tuners is missing its cap. It is now totally checked out and set up, and it has a straight neck, a flat top, and very little visible pick wear or fret wear.

I must say it plays like a dream, with fast and easy action of 3/32 at the 12. Fret low E; while I assume that its factory electronics work fine, I dont have an amp so I have never played it plugged in. This particular guitar has been dominating lesser instruments for fourteen years, and the resonance of its tonewoods will only improve with each new generation of players. Its classic good looks make it stand out in a crowd, but its the purity of the Taylor sound that will make other musicians turn around to check it out. The deluxe original Taylor hard shell case has a few exterior dings around the edges for jam credibility, and one of the five latches is missing a hasp.

However, the famous heavy plush lining is in great shape, and structurally it is solid as a rock. It is the ideal complement for this great guitarand of course its custom design offers outstanding protection. I have made every effort to describe and illustrate this guitar and case with scrupulous accuracy. Its return will not be accepted unless it can be shown that it was egregiously misrepresented in this listing.
