Very cool and rare old Lyon & Healy parlour guitar which I had imported from the states a few years ago. Straight braced, american oak body, and unusual metal saddle. It weighs barely anything, and sounds tight and focused with picks or a plectrum and mellow if you just use skin. The headstock's broken off at some point in the distant past and been professionally repaired, but this doesn't affect playability. Other than that, the only obvious damage is a small split in the lower bout near the tail pin, but again this doesn't affect sound or playability. The action's good for me, as I mostly play ragtime and blues things, but it is a little high at the 12th fret and the intonation suffers a bit up the neck, so you might want to think about a neck reset if you're going to be doing a lot of upper fret work. Saying that, the neck joins at the 12th fret, so it's not really a guitar for solo noodling. I don't know much about the history, but I do know it was made by Lyon and Healy in Chicago for a Michigan based chain of music stores who marketed guitars under their own'Wolverine' brand. Incidentally, Martin also made guitars under this brand for the same chain in brazilian rosewood and if you're lucky enough to find one it'll probably set you back more than a contemporaneous Martin. It's definitely old, though. There are other videos of the guitar on my channel, incidentally I'm not going to list all of the dimensions etc, but if there's a particular measurement you want to know then get in touch and I'll endeavour to reply quickly. I'm not desparate to sell, but I'm not being greedy either. The price is reasonable find another! There's no case, and I don't really want to post it, but I will if necessary; obviously I'll ensure it's well packed with polystyrene and padding if so. I would recommend that you come and play it if you can, though, as sound and the'feel' of a guitar are such subjective things. I'm in hertfordshire, about 30 mins from tottenham hale and 40 mins from cambridge by train, to give you some idea of location. Oh, and if you're a multi-instrumentalist or instrument dealer or a fan of old time americana then please check out my other auctions.
